Chinese President Xi Jinping has required better education to ensure all-round development of the country’s youths, calling on the young people to become the backbone of the nation.
He made the remarks while visiting a middle school in Suide, Shaanxi Province.
Earlier during his inspection tour in the province, the president stressed that the development of China’s energy industry should follow a green and low-carbon path.
The president says efforts should be conducive to peaking carbon dioxide emissions and achieving carbon neutrality without straining resources, energy and environmental capacity.
He also says the development of the coal industry should be transformed and upgraded.
Chinese ambassador meets Taliban acting foreign minister
The Chinese ambassador to Afghanistan has met with the Taliban’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
Wang Yu says China respects Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, will not interfere in its internal affairs, and will support the people of Afghanistan to choose a development path that suits its conditions.
He also says China is willing to provide humanitarian aid and help Afghanistan to combat terrorism along with the international community.
Muttaqi thanked China for its help and support, and says they will fight terrorism to prevent any forces from using Afghanistan for activities that harm the interests of China and other countries.
Taliban calls for continued international aid for Afghanistan
A senior Taliban official has called on the international community to continue providing aid to Afghanistan.
Amir Khan Muttaqi told a press briefing in Kabul that the new authorities in the country will continue to do their utmost to guarantee basic necessities to all Afghans.
China, Singapore committed to further cooperation, China-ASEAN ties
Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong with both sides expressing their willingness to further promote cooperation and boost China-ASEAN ties.
Wang also earlier met with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and agreed with his counterpart to focus on cooperation in five fields, including COVID-19, the Belt and Road and regional economic integration.
National consultation kicks off in Guinea
A national consultation is underway in Guinea where coup leaders are talking with political, religious and business representatives to form a transitional government.
A delegation from the party of ousted President Alpha Conde attended the meeting in Conakry.
Leaders from other political parties including the Liberal Bloc and the PADES Party were also present.
PADES Party member Ousmane Kaba says he is satisfied with the dialogue.

Fujian reports 50 local COVID-19 cases
The Chinese mainland reported 50 local COVID-19 cases from Fujian Province on Tuesday.
33 were discovered in Putian, 12 in Xiamen, and five in Quanzhou.
