Health authorities in Chifeng city in North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region have asked local residents to spend the coming Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays in the city to treasure and consolidate the achievements in the fight against the already contained COVID-19 flare-ups in East China’s Jiangsu and Central China’s Henan provinces.
The local health commission and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention jointly issued an emergency advice on Saturday to discourage gatherings or parties especially large-scale ones during the holidays, remind the public to pay attention to the epidemic prevention and control measures of their travel destinations and to refrain from visiting medium- and high-risk and epidemic-involved areas unless necessary.
The notice indicated that the number of infections in the recent flare-up in Putian in East China’s Fujian Province has risen to 24 as of Sunday. Primary studies on the virus suggest it’s the Delta variant.
Learning from previous lessons of epidemic resurgences in Nanjing and Yangzhou in Jiangsu and Zhengzhou in Henan, the authorities have vowed to never again make the mistake of ruining a city because of the failure to take action by one unit or even one person.
As the Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays approach, the authorities stressed the stay-local policy advocated by the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council to avoid traveling to medium- and high-risk and epidemic-involved areas unless necessary, especially Putian where people have been discouraged from leaving since Sunday.
As the holidays approach, several universities in South China’s Guangdong Province will refrain students from leaving the campus during the holiday.
Chifeng authorities expect the public to fully understand the long-term, complexity and seriousness of the COVID-19 prevention and control measures and to stay alert.
Those coming from Putian are required to report their travel histories and health conditions to the local authorities.
The local residents are required to continue personal health monitoring and practicing the basic code of conduct for epidemic prevention. All residents eligible for vaccination are being encouraged to finish their vaccination.
