The 24-year-old woman from Junlian county in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, who passed away on Friday, had been inoculated with two doses of COVID-19 vaccine nearly three months ago without adverse effects, the county government said in a statement on Sunday, slamming rumors that her death was related to the vaccine.
The woman, surnamed Jiang, presented abnormal liver function on Wednesday during a physical examination and went for treatment at a local hospital on Friday evening. The doctor prescribed the proper intravenous treatment for her liver, the statement read.
However, during the treatment, Jiang developed symptoms including throat discomfort, breathing tightness, loss of consciousness and cardiac arrest. She later died on the same day.
Rumors online have been saying that Jiang’s death is related to the COVID-19 vaccine. Addressing the rumors, the county government said Jiang received her first dose on May 30 and the second on June 21, with no adverse effects observed. The incident is not related to the vaccination, the statement said.
The county government pays great attention to the incident adding that its cause is under investigation.
