More than 6 lakh mobile sets entered Nepal in a month

In the first month of the current Fiscal Year 2078/79, Nepal has imported 6 lakh 67 thousand mobile sets. This is two lakh more than the first month of the last fiscal year 2077/78. Data from the customs department showed that 4 lakh 70 thousand sets were imported lastShrawan, Setopati Online wrote.

Recently, the import of mobile sets has been increasing due to the Corona epidemic. Experts say that due to lockdown, the means of transportation did not work and the demand for mobile phones increased while working online and working from home.

Chairman of the Mobile Imports Association, Deepak Malhotra, says that the import of mobiles has also increased as the smuggling route has been closed in lockdown. “Smuggling took 40 percent of the market, that’s the market we have now,” he said.

Mobile phones are entering the Nepali market from different countries of the world. The import of mobiles has also increased due to the recent increase in mobile users. Mobile services are being used rapidly even in remote area as telecommunication infrastructure and services have started reaching rural areas. Mobile phones also come to the Terai from open boarder of India.

‘Jhiti, Gunta Order 2075’ has also regulated the mobile market. According to the arrangement, only one set of new mobiles will be available as they have gone abroad. Its statistics are not available in the customs department.
