US ‘blame China’ strategy fuels racial hatred: Chinese FM

The US “blame China” strategy to shift public attention on its bungling of COVID-19 has been adding fuel to the country’s racial problems, spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in response to a recent report saying that more than 9,000 Anti-Asian incidents have been reported since the pandemic began.

The remarks were made after Stop AAPI Hate, a none-profit organization based in the US, said on August 12 that they recorded 9,081 incidents between March 19, 2020, and this June.

Hua Chunying, spokesperson of the foreign ministry, said that in the face of a worsening pandemic, some US politicians blamed China, instead of saving lives. From the previous administration’s chanting of “China virus,” to the current administration’s presupposed “investigation” of coronavirus origins, US politicians have been trying to throw mud at China, so that they can escape responsibility.

Turns out, the US “good policy” brought nothing good but only gave the virus more opportunities, and exposed Asians in the country to abuse and hatred, said Hua. She added that this has exposed the immorality and incompetence of some US politicians, and deepened the turmoil in the American society.

We urge US politicians to listen to their people and stop placing politics above people’s lives and science, said Hua. “Those are the basic requirements for handling the pandemic, as well as basic human qualities.”
