China so far has no condition for large-scaled outbreak of coronavirus, and the prevention and control measures taken by China against the pandemic since last year have still been effective, Shao Yiming, a leading physician and immunologist from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said at a press conference on Saturday, in an attempt to relieve public concerns over recent extensive contagions across multiple regions originated from Nanjing, East China’s Jiangsu Province.
All existing prevention measures are well conducted in practice and China’s vaccination speed is globally leading, leaving no real condition for large-scale outbreaks, Shao stressed.
Shao suggested that China’s COVID-19 vaccines still have sound prevention and protection against variant strains, and it’s normal that a small sum of people injected vaccines still contract the virus. The proportion of such after-dose infection is still minority among more than 3 billion doses given to people worldwide.
Clinical data show that no vaccine is 100 percent effective against infection. But overall, current vaccines are still effective against all the variants so far, according to Shao.
