Update: Fire in Northeast China’s Changchun city kills 15

A fire broke out at a warehouse in Northeast China’s Jilin Province on Saturday, killing 15 people and injuring 25. An investigation is underway to probe the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, legal person and managerial personnel in charge of the warehouse have been controlled by local police.

As of 3:50 pm on Sunday, on-site search and rescue came to an end. All 15 victims have been identified, according to an official statement released by Changchun city on China’s social platform Sina Weibo on Sunday.

The accident occurred at a logistics warehouse located in the High-tech Industrial Development Zone in Changchun city, the provincial capital. Next to the warehouse is a wedding photo studio.

In response to the incident, the province has set up an investigation group to find out the cause and pursue accountability in accordance with the law.

The best medical teams and resources in Jilin have been mobilized to Changchun to treat the wounded, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Sunday morning.

The Office of the Jilin Provincial Safety Commission has organized seven anonymous investigation teams to conduct large-scale investigations of hidden dangers in major industries such as fire safety in various cities and counties.
