Blogger’s appreciation of Japanese countryside attracts vivid response

Following a Chinese blogger’s constant praise of Japan’s countryside, a large number of netizens on Chinese social media have responded by posting photos of their rural hometowns, showing tidy streets and stunning views.

Countless netizens have been gathering on Chinese news aggregator app Jinri Toutiao to post impressive photos they have taken in various rural areas of the country, from the magnificent mountain views in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to the clean and tidy rural streets in East China’s Zhejiang Province.

Some netizens said the countryside photos resembled traditional Chinese ink wash paintings.

The spontaneous online activity came after a Chinese blogger’s constant posts praising Japan, with one of the posts saying “it is good for children to grow up in such a beautiful environment,” which went viral on Jinri Toutiao on Tuesday.

Yet after a series of public opinions over Japan’s selfish decision to discharge contaminated radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea, Chinese netizens were skeptical about such praise. They chose to leave comments and photos with posts of stunning scenes of China’s countryside.

The photos keep piling up and have reached a number of over 4,000 as of Thursday afternoon, according to Guancha News.

The beautiful rural environment shared by netizens is thanks to efforts from the Chinese government and environmental protection in rural China. The lives of people in the countryside have been improved a great deal in areas such as treatment of rural garbage and sewage, and infrastructure development.

Observers believe that this spontaneous photo exhibition shows residents joy and pride in living in an environment like this.

“I also took this random picture where I live, and I feel happy that my children are growing up in such a place,” read one comment.
