China wants to own development, not to replace others: Xi Jinping

On July 5, Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a video summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

On the occasion, President Xi Jinping said that the global epidemic situation is still serious and the future of economic recovery is not bright, emphasizing that the world should respect and cooperate with each other. He said that China hopes to develop well but not to replace others, adding that the purpose of China’s “Belt and Road” proposal is to create opportunities for common development. He also hoped to play a positive role in Europe’s international affairs, jointly safeguarding world peace, development and prosperity.

Macron said France hopes to work closely with China in the areas of WTO reform, tackling climate change, and conserving biodiversity.
