US, EU not qualified to lecture others in their joint statement: Chinese FM

The multi-faceted approaches to China mentioned in the EU-US Summit Statement actually infringe on China’s interests and China firmly opposes it, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The statement released after the EU-US Summit on Tuesday referred to China’s domestic affairs on its Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South and East China Seas. It also accused China of “economic coercion,” “disinformation campaigns” and “regional security issues.”

Zhao pointed out that the content of the statement goes beyond bilateral ties and points fingers at China’s domestic affairs. China firmly opposes it and condemns its smearing and slandering, he said.

“The US and EU should reflect on their own problems and are not qualified to lecture others,” Zhao said, noting that China opposes any country making “small circles” or political groups targeting a third country and opposes moves that rip off the world with ideology.
