A tornado that hit Shangzhi city, in the suburban area of Harbin, in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, at around 6 pm local time on Tuesday, left one dead and eight injured, according to a report by the Heilongjiang-based newspaper Life Daily.

The tornado also caused damages to more than 100 houses in the area as of Tuesday evening, as well as power outages and the suspension of a high-speed railway section, the newspaper said.

A video published online by Life Daily shows horrifying images of the tornado picking up dust and soil into the air, tainting the sky with a grayish yellow hue. Some houses were turned into piles of broken wood and big concrete chunks.
