McDonald’s rejected claims of food problems after a widely circulated video complaint in which a customer from North China’s Shanxi Province said live worms were found in one of the restaurants’ chicken fillet hamburgers.
McDonald’s said via its official Sina Weibo account on Monday that hamburgers are normally fried or baked in restaurants at high temperatures, so in normal circumstances, eggs of worms won’t be found.
The customer, surnamed Yang, from Taiyuan, a city in Shanxi Province, ordered four McDonald’s hamburgers through an online food delivery platform on Saturday for her children.
Yang claimed she found live worms on the burger buns when her kids opened the package a few hours later.
“My children finished two hamburgers this morning. I did not notice any bugs, but when my children started to eat the other two hamburgers in the afternoon, I found many live bugs climbing on the burger buns,” Yang said in the video.
The restaurant involved has been in contact with the customer, who made the order on a delivery platform and found the bugs when eating the other burgers a few hours later, McDonald’s said.
McDonald’s did not admit there was a food problem in its statement, but reminded customers that with summer approaching, if food is not eaten promptly, it should be stored properly, such as in the refrigerator to avoid attracting insects and flies.
No other official conclusion on the case was made as of press time.
The complaint video became a social media trend on Monday, garnering 160 million views as of press time.
