Chile reports 1.8 mln people vaccinated against COVID-19

A total of 1,817,266 people have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) so far as part of the nation’s mass vaccination plan that began on Feb. 3, the Chilean Ministry of Health reported Saturday.

The figure includes 955,436 people over 71 years of age. Regarding gender, 59.1 percent of those inoculated correspond to women and 40.9 percent are men.

Chilean Minister of Health Enrique Paris said on Saturday at a press conference that starting Monday, Feb. 15, workers in school and preschool education will be included in the schedule of vaccines against COVID-19, a phase that will begin with people over 60 years old.

The minister said that this reaffirms the importance of returning to face-to-face classes for boys and girls and announced that, as the week progresses, the school calendar will be adapted.

The health ministry reported on Saturday 3,920 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country to 772,395, of which 22,363 patients are in the active stage and 730,204 have recovered.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, there were 98 deaths from causes associated with COVID-19, pushing the total number of deaths in the country to 19,443. Enditem
