Tonghua vows to strengthen pandemic prevention measures

Authorities in Tonghua, a city in Northeast China’s Jilin Province that has been hit hard by COVID-19, vowed to strengthen prevention measures especially in its rural areas for the upcoming Spring Festival holiday and to ensure energy supply.

Wang Shudong, director of the health committee in Tonghua, told a press conference on Tuesday that it is necessary to take accurate prevention measures including adjusting the risk levels for different areas, preventing cross-infection in hospitals and promoting vaccinations of key groups. Although the epidemic is basically under control in the city, more work should be done to consolidate the “hard-won results.”

Tonghua reported zero new confirmed or asymptomatic case on Monday. According to the local authorities, 130 patients have been receiving medical treatment and 186 have been discharged from hospital.

Wang said on Tuesday that the city would carry out strict measures in public areas or for group activities and strengthen prevention measures in its rural areas.

Wang Dawei, deputy manager of China Mobile, said at the press conference that the company has made efforts to ensure stable communication networks and the operation of facilities for prevention work.

Tonghua will also ensure supplies of petrol for the prevention work.
