China’s Foreign Ministry responds to China’s vision of achieving post 2020 biodiversity target on Wednesday, urging all parties to work together to address the loss of biodiversity.
A UN biodiversity conference taking place in China next year is set to confirm goals for global biodiversity conservation over the next decade, said Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of China’s Foreign Ministry at a press briefing on Wednesday.
In 2021, the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will be held in Kunming, Southwest China’s Yunnan Province where the participants are expected to adopt the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework and set a global biodiversity conservation blueprint for the next decade.
Chinese authorities have proposed the framework to uphold the objectives of biodiversity conservation, sustainable utilization and benefit sharing set by the convention on biological diversity, Wang said.
Any plan should also be formulated with both a long-term vision and programmatic details. The framework should also consider the concerns of developing countries, he added.
All parties must work together to address the loss of biodiversity, which is a serious challenge facing the world, Wang said.
