US Tibet bill sends wrong signal to separatists: Tibet regional legislature

The US’ latest Tibetan Poli

cy and Support Bill has severely violated the basic norms of international relations, infringed upon China’s domestic affairs and sent wrong signals to separatists, which the Standing Committee of the People Congress of the Tibet Autonomous Region strongly opposes and condemns.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the regional committee said that in history, the Tibet region has been an unalienable part of China and Tibetan people are a member of the Chinese family. Affairs in the Tibet region are China’s domestic affairs which allow no outsider to point fingers or interfere with.

The US’ so-called bill to support Tibet intentionally ignores facts, turns white into black and uses human rights as an excuse to hinder regional development, to groundlessly slander the religious and ethnic policies in the region and to interfere with the process of reincarnation. The US’ purpose is to destroy the stability and prosperity of the Tibet region, said the statement.

The statement also lists achievements on economic and social development in the Tibet region since 1959. For example, the population in Tibet increased from 1.228 million in 1959 to 3.438 million in 2018 with Tibetans accounting for 90 percent. In addition, the average life expectancy of people in Tibet has increased to 70.6 years. Tibet now has 1,787 Tibetan Buddhist avenues and more than 46,000 monks. All religious festivals and events have been held as usual.

The process of reincarnation and the system has worked for several hundreds of years and the 14th Dalai Lama himself was selected and identified based on the traditional practices. The selection result was  reported to and approved by the central government at that time. The US has no right to interfere with China’s domestic affairs and its malicious intent has been exposed, said the statement.

People living in the Tibet region have the most say on whether Tibet’s development is positive, whether there is religious freedom and whether they are happy. The US has no right to act as judge or mentor. What angers people in Tibet more is that the US not only turns a blind eye to regional development but also slanders China’s policies in the region.

What the US is doing is backing the separatist activities of the Dalai Lama clique, using human rights and religion as excuses to destroy China’s development.
