The government is officially announcing the new height of the world’s tallest peak-Mt. Everest today which was recently measured by Nepal using its own resources and human capital, according to the Department of Survey. “There will be a joint announcement by Nepal and China today,” an official at the department is quoted as saying.
The precise height of the tallest mountain on earth had been contested ever since the British measured it in 1819. The widely accepted height of 8,848 metres was determined by the Survey of India in 1954.
