President Bhandari intensifies parleys with Oli and Dahal to save NCP

In a bid to save the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) from split, President Bidya Devi Bhandi, ignoring the non-partisan position of the Head of State, has blatantly intensified her parleys with the warring Chairmen of NCP.

On Thursday she had a lunch meeting with Prime Minister and Party Chairman Khadga Oli and in the evening she met with other Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to avert NCP’s split that is imminent.

Of late, President Bhandari has been active in settling dispute between Oli and Dahal. It is still unclear about the fate of the NCP and the outcome of her meetings with Oli and Dahal, as Oli boycotted the Secretariat meeting of the party on Wednesday. The Secretariat meeting slated for Saturday is expected to be decisive to take the party to a new course- a united NCP or a fractured one.

The subsequent meetings of Standing Committee fixed for Sunday and Central Working Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday will decide the fate of Oli as well as the party and the impact of President’s intervention.
