Chinese expert team helps Azerbaijan fight COVID-19: FM

The work being done by a group of Chinese medical experts aiding Azerbaijan in its fight against COVID-19 has been warmly welcomed and highly praised by the Azerbaijani government and people, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian at Tuesday’s media briefing.

At the invitation of the Azerbaijani government, a 10-member team of Chinese medical experts arrived in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on August 4. They will stay in Azerbaijan for two weeks and provide training and guidance to Azerbaijani medical personnel in epidemic prevention and control.

As the expert team was about to leave after seeing critically ill COVID-19 patients in the ICU room at the Azerbaijan Central Hospital of Oil Workers, a female patient held a Chinese expert’s hand tightly and shouted “Friends!” And gave them a thumbs up, Zhao said.

The Chinese expert team visited COVID-19 designated hospitals and a Baku blood center, exchanged views with Azerbaijani epidemic prevention authorities and local medical experts, introduced China’s mature practices in the treatment of COVID-19, and put forward targeted suggestions and treatment plans designed to meet the needs of Azerbaijan, Zhao explained.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, China and Azerbaijan have supported each other through medical supplies and sharing of experience, demonstrating the profound friendship between the two countries.
