Jaroslav Vala, the Commercial Counsellor of Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Shanghai, confirmed with the Global Times that Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini was not infected with COVID-19, and nobody in the country was infected with the virus.
Slovak Prime Minister Pellegrini also denied he had been infected with COVID-19 through his personal Twitter account on Tuesday.
“I resolutely deny hoax tweets that I have got a coronavirus. A total nonsense,” tweeted Prime Minister Pellegrini.
Rumors and worries over Pellegrini’s health condition spread after he attended an EU summit Thursday and was admitted to hospital on Saturday on his way back to Slovakia. According to the latest release on the official website of the Slovak government, Pellegrini will travel to Moscow to meet his Russian counterpart on Wednesday.
At least 278 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and eight deaths have been reported in Europe as of press time. No cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Slovakia currently.
