Jails in a pathetic condition

Most of the jails of Nepal are in a poor condition, according to monitoring report of the Office of the Attorney General.
Most of the jails have inmates exceeding their capacity. In the prisons of Banke, Bardiya,Nawalparasi,Kanchanpur,Pyuthan and Rupandehi, the prisons were jam-packed with inmates and detainees.
According to co-attorney general and spokesperson of the Office of Attorney General, there is no prison in Nawalparasi east while the prison of Sarlahi is under construction, the inmates of these districts are sent to Saptari and Jhumka jails.
Likewise, the inmates are provided just 700 gram rice and Rs.60 a day, which they said was insufficient to meet their needs.
They have demanded to consider the market price while providing daily allowance to them.
