The cast of “Downton Abbey” may have pretended to be in 1927 for the movie but in reality, they had to keep their technology close.
Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary Crowley, says they would hide their mobile phones “everywhere” but that her male castmates had the advantage of having pockets.
“Well the boys have pockets so they can hide them in their jackets or their trousers. We don’t have that luxury,” Dockery said. “So, it’s either like underneath if you’re sitting down or under here under your bum or like (laughs) under a tablecloth, under a drawer. I mean if you’re doing a scene in front of the mirror which Mary seems to be always in front of the mirror getting her hair done, that’s where I would hide my phone in the drawer.”
In the film, the Crowley family and their staff prepares for a royal visit from King George V and Queen Mary.
The actors say wrapping the film wasn’t quite as emotional as when they ended the series because they have a feeling they’ll be reuniting again.
“It was less emotional than finishing the show definitely,” Dockery said. “And it did feel like erm, who knows? We’re constantly being asked about a sequel so it feels like there’s definitely a possibility that we could get back together, you know?”
“Downton Abbey” opens in the U.S. and Canada on Sept. 20. It’s already opened in overseas markets where it earned approximately $12 Million at the box office.
