Nearly 60 kg of drugs seized in southwest China

Police in southwest China’s Yunnan Province have nabbed four drug trafficking suspects and seized nearly 60 kg of drugs, local authorities said Sunday.

After receiving a tip-off in mid-August, police in the city of Tengchong dispatched a task force to the China-Myanmar border county of Yingjiang, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture to investigate.

At around 1:00 a.m. on Sept. 11, one suspect was ambushed and caught by police in Yingjiang with 26 bricks of opium weighing 59.79 kg. Police later captured three other suspects involved in the case in Yingjiang.

The four suspects have been put under criminal detention. Further investigation is underway.

Yunnan is a major front in China’s battle against drug crime, as it borders the Golden Triangle known for its rampant drug production and trafficking.
