Triangular fight within the NCP

The three groups in NCP are trying to strengthen their own group within the party. The three leaders – Prime Minister and party co-chairman KP Sharma Oli, senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and and another cochairman Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda – are playing their own strategies to make their own group stronger.

Oli is trying to finish Nepal by taking support of Prachanda, whereas, Nepal is trying to finish Oli with the support of Prachanda.

Prachanda, on the other hand, has become suspicious with Oli and initiated internal strategies. In this connection, Prachanda held a meeting with Nepal and proposed the PM’s position to Madhav if the party chairmanship is given to him.

While initiating their internal strategies, Prachanda met with Sher Bahadur Deuba and proposed to form a national government.

On the other hand, Oli, who is informed about such a development against him, held a meeting with Nepal and proposed to him to move forward together. In response, Nepal had questioned to Oli, what type of togetherness? Nepal blamed Oli that the latter was taking decisions by bypassing the party, the party was unaware about vital decisions of the government on many occasions. In such a way, it is impossible to walk together.

Then after, Oli has tried to please Prachanda. There were disputes on the party’s political ideology. Oli, of late, was putting pressure on Prachanda to accept the People’s Multiparty Proletariat introduced by late Madan Bhandari. Prachanda had bluntly refused this suggestion. However, of late, Oli has accepted the ideology of People’s Proletariat proposed by Prachanda.

Due to the ongoing dispute among the leaders, the party integration process has been derailed, however, Oli has said that by mid-July, the integration process will be completed. Accordingly, Oli is willing to reshuffle the council of ministers by ousting some ministers and introducing some new faces. But he is afraid that he may fall into a minority in the party secretariat and also in the parliamentary party if he takes such a decision immediately. Therefore, Oli is buying time.

Meanwhile, Oli is trying to make his side strong by rewarding some important leaders in the Nepal camp and Prachanda camp in the long run.
