SC paves way to PSC

The Supreme Court has opened the door for the Public Service Commission (PSC) to take written examinations for various positions (open and inclusive categories) for the local level governments. A single bench of Justice Pursottam Bhandari denied issuing an order to stop the PSC from taking examinations for the vacancy it has announced for more than 9,000 positions in 515 local levels across the country.

It has, however,  sought a written response about whether the vacancy announcement for various posts is inclusive. The order came in response to a writ filed by advocate Bikash Kumar Thakur on June 10, arguing that the vacancy announcement was against the spirit of the Constitution.

The PSC had published the vacancy announcement on May 29. Some 90, 000 government job aspirants have already filed applications for the examinations. Also on Monday, the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the Federal Parliament had directed the government to cancel the advertisement. However, the applications have taken to the streets against the directive.
