Over 200,000 traffic police sent on street for festival, gaokao

Over 200,000 traffic police officers were sent on the streets across the country Friday to ensure safe and smooth traffic on the first day of the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, which coincides with the beginning of gaokao, the annual college entrance exam.

Meanwhile, more than 70,000 police vehicles and over 4,000 traffic police stations were on duty along major expressways, scenic spots and the main routes for vehicles carrying the students for test to keep the traffic in good order, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

As of 5 p.m., no road accident with more than five deaths was reported, and major highways as well as main routes did not see any severe traffic jams.

The college entrance exam will end Saturday.
