Imported plants on display at the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition have been tagged with ID cards that detail their history and quarantine information, Chinanews.com reported on Wednesday.
The 35,000 plants, which were sent to Beijing from around the world, each have a round card labeled with a QR code. Visitors to the horticultural exhibition can scan the unique QR code on a tag using their phone to look up information about the plant.

The ID card system was put in place to provide an easily accessible record that shows each plant has passed inspection and quarantine by customs, and therefore doesn’t pose a danger to China’s ecological security.
