Hospital blamed for virus infection in Jiangsu, affecting 69

The investigation into a virus infection taking place in a hospital in Jiangsu Province has concluded, determining the hospital is to be held accountable for the medical incident, according to Dongtai municipal government on May 27, 2019.

Some of patients tested positive for hepatitis C after receiving dialysis treatment in the Dongtai People’s Hospital. 69 of them were later diagnosed with hepatitis C.

The medical incident was reported to local health authorities on May 13. A working team composed of medical experts and health officials from municipal, provincial, and national levels was set up to launch an investigation into the incident.

After an inquiry, flaws were found in infection control at the hospital, which was later determined to be responsible for medical negligence.

Its director was removed from the post. Others involved in the incident also received punishment.

The victims are getting drug therapy and other treatments, and their health conditions remain steady so far.
