3 still missing in SW China boat accident

Three people remained unaccounted for after a boat capsized on a river in southwest China’s Guizhou Province Thursday afternoon.

The vessel had 29 people on board when it capsized at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the Beipan River. Ten people have been confirmed dead, 16 people survived and three were still missing as of 11 p.m. Friday, according to local authorities.

Among the survivors, 11 were rescued and five saved themselves.

The owner of the boat has been held by police. The injured have been sent to hospital.

Rescuers composed of police, emergency response officers, people from the transport and health departments in Bouyei-Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Qianxinan are searching for the missing.

An investigation is ongoing.
