The official website of the Royal Household of Queen Elizabeth II has published a hiring notice, searching for a Digital Communication Officer to find “new ways to maintain the Queen’s presence in the public eye and on the world stage.”
The job requirements include the applicant having the ability to curate the Royal Instagram feed and update the Royal Household’s social media accounts, which involves state visits, researching and writing feature articles and managing other digital platforms.
According to the requirements described on the official website, the job is a permanent position that clocks less than 40 hours a week, with the office located inside Buckingham Palace.
According to some reports by the British media, the Royal household has been struggling with abusive comments being placed on its social media accounts in recent months. In March, the palace released a set of social media guidelines for its followers in an effort to tackle the problem, requiring anyone posting comments on its social media platforms to show respect, courtesy and kindness.
While the hiring note has created buzz on the Internet, the job does have its drawbacks, including a salary which only pays the equivalent of 38,000 US dollars a year. This would barely constitute a liveable wage for someone living in London, which is one of the most expensive cities in the world.
