Erdogan, Putin discuss situation in Syria, Libya by phone

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss situation in Syria and Libya, Turkish presidency said in a statement.

The two leaders agreed to continue close coordination in Syria as part of Astana peace process, the statement said.

The Astana talks support the establishment of the UN-backed constitutional committee in Syria as a way to find a political solution.

Turkey, Russia, and Iran serve as guarantors in the Astana peace process.

Turkish and Russian presidents also discussed recent crisis in Libya in the phone call.

Both states called for cease-fire in the oil-rich country. Turkey stressed that it supports for Libya’s peace and stability, it added.
