An 11-year-old Argentine girl, known as ‘Lucia’, delivered a baby via cesarean section at 23 weeks. Her pregnancy was a result of rape by her grandmother’s boyfriend.

“I want you to remove what the old man put inside me,” the girl told doctors, according to her lawyers.

Rape is among the few instances in which females in Argentina may legally have an abortion, The New York Times reports. However, authorities in her province stalled for weeks, forcing ‘Lucia’ to deliver a baby on Wednesday who experts say is unlikely to survive.

The case has reignited a fierce debate and protests over reproductive rights in Argentina.
