French rail operator SNCF opens WeChat account to aid Chinese travellers

French train operator SNCF has opened an official account on WeChat, China’s most popular social media platform, to offer information to travellers from China.

According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, the company announced on Thursday that the WeChat account would help Chinese customers to enjoy their trips with SNCF.

Information offered through the public account includes the facilities available at train stations, baggage regulations, and food and Wi-Fi services.

Information is available on about 20 stations, including those in Paris, Lyon, and Marseille. More stations will reportedly be covered in the future.

The move aims to offer more convenience to travelers in France’s booming tourism market, according to Carole Tabourot, the head of customer experience and station services at SNCF. “More than two million Chinese tourists came to visit France last year, and the figure is expected to double by 2024 when France hosts the Summer Olympics.”
