A concept model of a “Vertical City” was created Wednesday at China’s tallest building.
The model, consisting of botanical elements made from sustainably sourced sugarcane, was created on the 126th floor of the Shanghai Tower by 11 LEGO Certified Professionals from around the world, along with 30 children. The model is 2.47 meters tall and covers an area of more than 5 square meters.
The Vertical City theme examines the use of vertical space for more sustainable living, according to the organizer.
The Shanghai Tower is 632 meters tall, and the 126th floor is the highest floor open to the public, at a vertical height of 583.4 meters.
Wei Wei Shannon Gluckman, one of the professionals that participated in the project, said that the Vertical City theme explored which elements define the idea of a city.
The Vertical City model will be open to visitors for the next six months at the Shanghai Tower, with the aim of promoting public discussion on sustainable living.
