Thai mother found in China to return home after 8-month disappearance

A 59-year-old woman will be returned to her home in Thailand after being found in the city of Kunming in Yunnan Province after going missing for eight months.

The Thai woman, who reportedly suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, was found by Kunming police on a local highway about 650 kilometers from her home in Chiang Rai. It’s unclear how the woman managed to travel as far as she did.

The woman was walking alone and carrying her Thai ID card, according to the Beijing Youth Daily, citing reports from Thai media. Kunming police sent the woman to hospital and made contact with Thailand’s government.

Authorities in China and Thailand worked together to arrange for the woman’s daughter to fly to Kunming on Wednesday to be reunited with her mother. The pair is expected to fly back to Chiang Rai on Friday.
