China’s Consulate General in New York has become its first consulate to open an official Instagram account.

The account, called chinacg_nyc, will be used to share content on China-U.S. events, information about Chinese culture, and consulate-related news.

“Through this account, you can see a true, beautiful, and charming China and the extensive cooperation between China and the northeastern 10 states in the consular district,” the Consul General Huang Ping said in a video address on Tuesday.

He added that he hopes the account can serve as a window to China and a source of news for overseas Chinese.

The opening of the consulate’s Instagram account comes after China and the United States recently marked 40 years of diplomatic ties, and ahead of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
