China is set to take over from Japan as the second largest contributor to the United Nations’ general budget starting in 2019, reports the Xinhua News Agency.
A new UN resolution has been passed, outlining the new assessments for the UN’s general and peacekeeping budgets. China’s contribution to the general budget will rise to 12.01 percent from 2019 to 2021. This is up from the previous 7.92 percent China had been paying. At the same time, Japan’s share is due to drop to 8.56 percent over the coming three years.
China will remain the second largest contributor to the UN’s peacekeeping budget, with its contribution rising from 10.24 percent to 15.22 percent starting next year, reports Xinhua.
The United States remains the largest contributor to the United Nations’ peacekeeping and general budget.
