IFLYTEK translator passes CET6 translation test with flying colors

An intelligent machine translator produced by IFLYTEK was put through its paces at Heifei Normal University in Anhui Province on Tuesday, when it was tested against China’s national college-level English test, the CET6 (College English Test, level 6). In what has been seen as a significant breakthrough in machine translation technology, the IFLYTEK translator passed with flying colors.

During the test, sentences were manually entered into the computer, and each question was answered in less than two seconds. The machine’s translations was assessed by two experts with extensive experience marking CET6 papers. With a total score of 13 out of 15, the machine translations were equivalent in quality to the work of a top student.

This week’s test results are another sign of the progress that the team at IFLYTEK has made in machine translation. They won first prize at the International Workshop on Spoken Language Translation in 2014 and 2018, and the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology Open Machine Translation 2015 Challenge for its Chinese-English machine translation. IFLYTEK made another big step forward in the technology with the release of an offline translator in 2017.

IFLYTEK interpreters are now in use in 170 countries. The progress that has been made in the past few years in machine translation has helped to make daily life easier for people when it comes to work, study, and travel.
