New items for your wish list: Limited edition of lipstick collection by the Palace Museum

If you think the Palace Museum is a place only for traditional Chinese culture, you’re wrong.

Sunday, the Palace Museum released its new series of product – limited edition of a lipstick collection in six colors on its online store, provoking excitement among netizens and fashion lovers. The most favored “Lang Yao glaze red” has more than 3,000 orders to date.

This is done by the Palace Museum Cultural and Creative Store, popular in recent years because of the cute and funny products it has released based on a historical theme.

The six colors include “Lang Yao glaze red,” “Bean paste red,” “Tourmaline purple,” “Rose-purple,” “Mermaid pink,” and “Maple red,” which are all classic colors in the sense of Asian beauty.

The packaging of the lipsticks was inspired by patterns from traditional Chinese porcelain and embroideries. Featuring the fairy cranes, lucky deer, butterflies and bees, and embellished by flowers like hydrangea and chrysanthemum, the patterns on the packaging shows a refined traditional Chinese beauty. Besides, by the use of 3D printing, the packaging also presents the texture of embroidery, which makes it nearly a delicate art piece.

The lipsticks have hyaluronic acid inside as an ingredient, which not only moisturizes the lips in winter times but also helps relieve wrinkles on them.

Just one day after the release of the lipsticks, the Store also released a series of facial masks, named as “Beauty Mask.” The mask adopted herbal ingredients and is friendly for sensitive skin.

The lipsticks soon went viral online. Many people say “Just tell me where to buy it,” “I really want one,” or “It’s the Chinese Tom Ford!”

With a history of nearly 600 years, the Palace Museum has presented more modern characteristics in recent years, including releasing cultural and creative products to cater to the young.

The products are available through Wechat mini program, “Palace Museum Cultural and Creative Store,” or “Gu Gong Wen Hua Chuang Yi Guan” in Chinese.
