Kathmandu: A meeting of the Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress has taken disciplinary action against General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma.
According to Congress leader Min Bishwakarma, the Central Working Committee meeting held on Wednesday took disciplinary action against General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma, as well as Co-General Secretary Farmullah Mansur.

The establishment faction’s Central Working Committee decided to take action, stating that the two general secretaries acted against party discipline by calling a special general convention.
The meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee, chaired by Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka and held on Wednesday in Sanepa, decided to expel them from party membership for five years on charges of being involved in activities contrary to the party statute and interests, Bishwakarma said.
The establishment faction has accused General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma and Co-General Secretary Mansur of leading the special general convention called by the pro–special convention group within the Congress, and of being involved in advancing the election process to select new leadership.
The special general convention has moved forward with the process of selecting new office-bearers, including Gagan Thapa as party president and Bishwo Prakash Sharma and Pradeep Paudel as the two general secretaries. With this decision of the Central Committee, the Nepali Congress has formally moved toward a split.
Under the special general convention that has been ongoing since Poush 27 at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu, preparations are currently underway to form a new working committee by consensus.
