Kathmandu: With the main agendas of ending corruption, establishing good governance, and safeguarding national security, the “National Independent Civil Society, Nepal” has been formally established.
The organization was publicly announced in Kathmandu on Saturday with a 13-member executive committee.
The society, chaired by the founder of Greater Nepal, Phanindra Nepal, includes prominent figures from various fields, including former AIG of Nepal Police Ran Bahadur Chand (PhD).
Speaking about the objectives, Chairperson Nepal said, “We will stand independently and impartially for citizens’ rights and national interest, not under pressure from any political party or power interests.”
A press statement released at a press conference noted that recent developments have seriously weakened citizens’ rights, national sovereignty, sense of security, and public trust in the state.
It alleged that ruling authorities and political power centers are misusing power under political cover through administrative arbitrariness, corruption, favoritism, repression, exploitation, and policies influenced by foreign interests.
Chairperson Nepal stated, “As fundamental rights, human rights, and natural justice are under direct attack, it has become inevitable for conscious citizens to unite.”
In this context, the society said it was formed as a common institutional platform for patriotic, aware, and responsible citizens.
The organization announced plans to expand its structure from the center to ward levels, function independently without external influence, and collaborate with the Gen Z movement against corruption and in favor of good governance.
Chairperson Nepal said, “The issues raised by the Gen Z movement are a national necessity, so cooperation is our far-sighted decision.”
He added that resolving disputes related to the country’s system of governance through roundtable dialogue and building a shared national vision is an urgent need, and that coordination among nationalist organizations, individuals, administrative, and political sectors will be a priority.
The society said it will amplify the suppressed voices of voiceless citizens, make its declaration public after broad consultations, and launch programs soon.
Chairperson Nepal concluded, “Only through unity, active participation, and shared national commitment of conscious citizens can the country’s sovereignty, dignity, and future be secured. Support from all patriotic citizens is essential.”
Former AIG Chand said the society was formed to protect national independence.
The society clarified it will not tolerate interference in civil liberties and fundamental rights and will raise its voice impartially and lawfully against injustice by any state body or power group.
It also pledged to oppose attacks on religion, tradition, culture, language, and civilization, and to serve as a guiding civic mechanism on issues of national interest, security, and civic guardianship.
