Kathmandu : Despite growing voices within the party that outgoing Prime Minister and UML Chair KP Oli should take responsibility for the current crisis and repression by stepping down from leadership and initiating a restructuring campaign, Oli himself is not in the mood to resign.
For that reason, the establishment faction has been defending him, saying it is inappropriate to make external comments on matters meant for internal party discussions during times of crisis. In line with his policy of not resigning and defending his position, Oli did not delegate authority to Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokharel even while confined inside the barracks.

As a result, the party secretariat meeting of UML could not be held during this period to form an institutional position. After Oli publicly expressed his views on the current crisis, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel seems inclined to hold a meeting at an appropriate time to review and discuss the way forward.
A few days ago, he had also mentioned in a statement that the party would conduct a review meeting at the right time. Head of the Publicity Department, Rajendra Gautam, also stated that the issue of party restructuring has not even entered the agenda. “Party restructuring is an internal business of the party. We have not entered into that matter yet,” Gautam said.
