Tibet earthquake: President Paudel saddened by loss of life and property

Kathmandu, Jan 7:

President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives and properties in the earthquake that struck Tibet Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China this morning.
Extending heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family members through the social platform X today, President Paudel prayed for the early recovery of those injured in the disaster.
He stated that Nepal stands firmly by the Government and the people of the People’s Republic of China at this moment of profound grief.

 

 

Two houses damaged due to earthquake in Solukhumbu

Solukhumbu, Jan 7: A house each was damaged at Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality due to the earthquake occurred this morning.
The two-storey stone-and-mud-walled house of 50-year-old Harka Bahadur Khattri at Deusa Luruwa, Thulung Dudhkoshi-7, suffered damage due to the tremor, police said. The house roof was made of slate.
Similarly, the two-storey stone-and-mud-walled house of Aangima Sherpa at Helajung, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 was also damaged due to the earthquake. The house had tin roof, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dwarika Prasad Ghimire, said.
According to him, police team has been dispatched to those places for assessing the damage.
Chief District Officer Anoj Kumar Ghimire said all the apparatus, including the police, have been kept on standby for possible rescue and relief works.
Sagarmatha National Park building develops cracks
Similarly, the office building of Thame Post of the Sagarmatha National Park at Thametyang, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 has developed cracks due to the tremor.
Park Chief Conservation Officer Sushma Rana said the one-storey block made of stone has cracked. Two people had been staying in the house.
Meanwhile, a house has collapsed due to the earthquake this morning at Kimathanka, Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-1 of Sankhuwasabha district. The two-storey mud-and-stone house belonged to Tenchhebi Sherpa. It had tin roof, said Chief District Officer Binod Kumar Khadka.
The earthquake with its epicentre at Dinggye County of Xizang Autonomous Region, China jolted the eastern region of Nepal as well as the federal capital, Kathmandu. The 6.8-magnitude-earthquake occurred at 6.50 am today.

 

 

Earthquake results in minor damages

Kathmandu, Jan 7: The earthquake with its epicentre at Dinggye County of Xizang Autonomous Region, China also shook the eastern region of Nepal including the federal capital, Kathmandu. The 6.8-magnitude-earthquake occurred at 6.50 am today.
According to reports coming in from the eastern districts of the country so far, the tremor has not resulted in big damage except minor damages.
Nepali Army Spokesperson Gaurav Kumar KC said that there is no large-scale damage from the earthquake. “As per the information received from the Army apparatus, there are no reports of large-scale damage to life and property throughout the country from the earthquake,” he said.
Similarly, Joint Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force (APF), Shailendra Thapa said only minor damage has been reported due to the earthquake. “It is found that the walls of mud and stone houses have developed cracks at some places. However, detailed information of damage is awaited,” he said.
Nepal Police Spokesperson Bishwa Adhikari said that no information of human casualties has been received so far.

 

 

Collection of information on earthquake impact underway

Solukhumbu, Jan 7: The government agencies in Solukhumbu district have been mobilized for collecting information on impact of the earthquake in the district.
The quake measuring 7.0 in Richter scale had its epicentre at Dinggye County of Tibet, China. It also jolted Nepal’s eastern districts including federal capital, Kathmandu, early morning today.
Chief District Officer in Solukhumbu, Anoj Kumar Ghimire, said, “Exact details on damages caused by the tremor are yet to be collected. We’ve mobilized our teams including security agencies in the field for collecting information.”
He further shared that they would coordinate with local level representatives to collect the information about quake damages.
The Khumbu region, bordering Dinggye County of Tibet, might have recorded damages by the tremor, according to him.
Chairman of ward no 4 at Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality, Laxman Adhikari, also informed that Lobuchhe area could have faced damages.
“Our team has been mobilized for Lobuche area. As the telephone contact is not reliable, onsite inspection is essential. It will take some hours to reach Lobuche,” Adhikari shared.
Similarly, the local authorities in Sankhuwasabha, Panchthar and Taplejung districts informed that there was they were reported of earthquake damage so far.
However, they have launched inspection to take stock of the post-quake situation.
