Kathmandu, Sept 8:
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, has said the mother tongue should be made the official languages at province and local levels.
Speaking in a programme organized on the occasion of the establishment day of the Language Commission here Sunday, the Minister said the use of official language should be increased to promote languages of all communities.
He mentioned that currently the number of languages in Nepal has reached 131. Pandey opined that expression in oral form disappears unless it comes in the form of writing.
“Promotion of language is important. Individuals should have the opportunity to work and communicate in their mother tongues,” he said, adding that he would soon introduce various reform programmes in the Ministry.
