Kathmandu, Aug 29:
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has vowed making all laws relating to communications within a year.
Talking to RSS on Thursday, Minister Gurung said the current year would be the year of law and policy making. Homework has been intensified for it, he said, adding, “Old laws and policies would be amended or scrapped.”
The bill on public service broadcasting, 2079 was passed by the Upper House and is currently under discussion at HoR committee. Similarly a bill relating to social media was being prepared in order to make social media dignified, free and well managed.
The mass communications policy will also be finalized soon while he made it clear that Media Council Bill would not be concluded in haste because it should address concerns from diverse sectors.
Moreover, Minister Gurung shared that bills relating to telecommunications and information technology were merged as per Finance Ministry’s recommendation, so it was comparatively comprehensive. “This year, we will bring all laws on communications, including postal service,” he reiterated.
