The opening round of discussions between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran was held in Islamabad under Pakistan\u2019s facilitation, as part of ongoing efforts to preserve the ceasefire, reduce tensions, and support a peaceful and negotiated path forward.<\/p>\n
Pakistan undertook this responsibility in good faith and with the sole objective of helping create diplomatic space for constructive engagement. We appreciate the remarks made by the Vice President of the United States acknowledging Pakistan\u2019s facilitative role and hospitality.<\/p>\n
As host and facilitator, Pakistan is not party to the negotiations and does not comment on the substance of confidential exchanges or on the respective positions of the parties. Pakistan, however, considers the Islamabad discussions an important opening step in a continuing diplomatic process.<\/p>\n
Pakistan urges all sides to remain engaged in good faith, sustain the ceasefire, consolidate de-escalatory gains, exercise restraint in word and deed, and avoid any action or public posture that could complicate the environment for further dialogue.<\/p>\n
Issues of such sensitivity and consequence cannot be resolved in a single sitting. Progress in such matters requires patience, political will, mutual respect, and diplomatic discretion. What remains important is that the channel stays open and the process moves forward in a constructive manner.<\/p>\n
Pakistan remains firmly committed to supporting all sincere efforts aimed at de-escalation, regional stability, and the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, in accordance with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
