Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said martyrs are a source of inspiration for us to work for bringing transformations in the country.
\nIn his address to the main celebration of the National Martyrs’ Day, 2081 BS organised by the government on the Singha Durbar premises today, the Prime Minister said contributions of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the abolition of Rana rule and for establishment of democracy at different times are of a significant value.
\n“Federal democratic republic was achieved due to sacrifices and inspiration of our martyrs,” the Prime Minister said, adding that “In this system, sovereign citizens are the source of ultimate power.”
\nStating that the government is effortful to further strengthen this system, he urged the people’s representatives to deliver with the same spirit for total democracy.
\nHe utilised the time to claim that the incumbent government is advancing towards the goal for prosperous Nepal and happy Nepali.
\n“We have fought long and hard to establish democracy,” the Prime Minister said. “However, democracy does not mean anarchy; it is an advanced, civilized system of governance. While there are democratic processes for revising or changing leadership, any actions that threaten the unity of the country or hinder its development will not be tolerated.”
\n“The government is committed to taking a lead for nation’s sovereignty, development and good governance and we are firm to follow the course set by our martyrs,” he added.
\nDeputy Prime Ministers, ministers, House of Representatives (HoR) Deputy Speaker, the chief advisor to the Prime Minister, the government Chief Secretary, the Chief of Army Staff, government secretaries and distinguished personalities were preset on the occasion.
\nPrior to this, the Prime Minister visited the Lainchaur-based Martyrs’ Memorial and Martyr’s Gate in Sundhara to pay homage to the martyrs.<\/p>\n

\nThe action plan including a report was prepared under the leadership of Dr Dipendra Raman Singh, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, according to Minister Paudel’s Secretariat.
\nThe Council of Ministers will decide on the health insurance reform bid based on the proposed action plans, added the Secretariat. The Ministry is currently working to increase insurance coverage to Rs 500,000.
\nThe report presented to PM Oli outlines the basis for expanding the insurance coverage upto Rs 500,000.
\nThe Ministry is preparing to propose an amendment to the Health Insurance Act in the upcoming winter session of the parliament provided the cabinet endorses the proposal.<\/p>\n
\nMarking the Martyrs’ Day today, PM Oli laid a wreath at the statues of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for establishment of democracy and republican system in the country.
\nMartyrs’ Day is observed every year on Magh 16 of Nepali month in memory of brave heroes who gave up on their lives for democratic revolution and democratic people’s movement against the Rana oligarchy.
\nThe Day is being celebrated since 2007 BS with various programmes honouring the enduring contributions of the martyrs.
\nPresent on the wreath laying ceremony were the Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers, parliamentarians from various political parties, the Chief Secretary of the government of Nepal, chiefs of security agencies and Deputy Mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City among others.
\nThey also paid their heartfelt tributes to the martyrs.
\nA special Martyrs’ Day event is scheduled at Singha Durbar premises later today with PM Oli as the chief guest.<\/p>\n
