UML demands to move impeachment motion against Chief Justice

Kathmandu, June 7

The main opposition party, the CPN-UML, has demanded that Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabara be dismissed.

Shanta Chaudhary, the UML parliamentary party leader, and MP Khagraj Adhikari, who spoke at the House Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday, demanded that the impeachment resolution be referred to the impeachment recommendation committee.

On February 13, 2022, a total of 98 members of the ruling coalition filed an impeachment
resolution against Chief Justice Jabara in the parliament. On March 6, 2022, the House of
Representatives established an 11-member impeachment recommendation committee.

UML, on the other hand, has expressed concern that the impeachment recommendation committee has yet to receive the request against Jabara.

UML has four members on the impeachment recommendation committee, two from Congress and UCPN (Maoist) Center, one from CPN-U, and one each from Janata Samajwadi Party and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party.

Bishnu Poudel of the UML, Shiva Maya Tambahangphe, Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel, and Lal Babu Pandit of the Congress, Min Bahadur Bishwakarma and Ram Bahadur Bista of the UCPN (Maoist), Yashoda Subedi Gurung and Rekha Sharma of the UCPN (Maoist), Kalyani Khadka of the UCPN (Maoist), Pramod Sah of Jasapa and Ekwal Mia of LSP.
