Kathmandu, May 6
The Asian Games in Hongzhou, China, scheduled for September have been postponed
indefinitely.
Although the host country did not specify the cause for the postponement, China is presently experiencing a Corona outbreak. After more illnesses were discovered in January 2019 than at the start of the pandemic, China decided to take measures.
According to the competition’s official website, the Asian Olympic Council (OCA) has chosen to postpone the 19th Asian Games, which would be hosted in Hongzhou from September 10 to 25.
However, the initial announcement of the postponement was carried by CCTV, China’s state-run media.
Sujan Lal Shrestha, the Executive Secretary of the Nepal Olympic Committee, also stated that the committee had been notified of the decision to postpone the Asian Games. Nepal had decided to take part in 23 Asian Games events. According to him, because players may register until the second week of May, all of the games were used to choose the national team.
The new date of the competition will be determined later, according to the official statement of the organizing committee.
Following a sharp rise in corona infections, Shanghai, China’s largest metropolis, has declared a week-long lockdown. The Asian Games will be held in Hongzhou, which is 200 kilometers from Shanghai.
