Kathmandu, March 3
From today, the Election Commission (EC) has called for protests in voter lists for municipal elections.
The enrollment update program allegations must be protested within seven days, according to the commission. Shaligram Sharma Poudel, the Commission’s spokesperson, spoke during a news conference to provide updates on the local election preparations.
Voters will be able to request for rectification of inaccuracies in the voter list, register a complaint against the inclusion of names in the rolls based on incorrect information, and apply to keep only one location if their name appears in many places under the new program.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has said that the upcoming local elections will be funded with a budget of Rs. 8 billion 110 million.
Spokesperson Poudel announced at a regular press briefing that the Ministry of Finance has issued the Commission a letter of assurance.
According to the commission, it is looking at the petitions of 80 political parties that have applied for registration in municipal elections. The names of the parties competing in the election will be publicized by March 10, according to Poudel.
Similarly, the commission has announced that it is reviewing the list of Chief Electoral Officers and Election Officers who will be deployed in local elections.
